PROGRAM
This is the very start of your epic journey, when you arrive in Ushuaia, capital of the Province of Tierra del Fuego in Argentina.
You meet your guide for a technical review of hiking or glacier skiing. In the evening, a welcome dinner is arranged before your last night on terra firma.
On the second day you board the Ocean Albatros, your polar expedition vessel. The course will be set for the 240 km long Beagle Channel.
Days 3 and 4 are a key stage as you travel through the legendary Drake Passage. You will have the opportunity to observe the great sperm whales, humpback whales and a host of seabirds that inhabit this wilderness.
On the fifth day, we explore Charlotte Bay and Buff Islans on touring skis and by Zodiac, an opportunity to meet the penguins.
We have two islands to explore on day six: Enterprise Island and Nansen Island, which we cross on touring skis. Vestiges of the whaling era dating back to the early 1900s can still be seen here. Penguins and Adelie penguins now occupy the site!
Day seven: We stop off at Ronge Island, then at Cuverville for a Zodiac excursion that offers an opportunity to visit the Almirante Brown base, a scientific research station.
On day eight, there is some amazing skiing to enjoy (Lemaire Channel / Mt. Scott /Mt. Demaria / Mt. Mill). We also visit the Ukrainian research station Vernadsky. We will certainly come across orcas and leopard seals.
Day nine: More skiing around Livingston Island and Half Moon Bay before heading north to begin the return journey.
It is almost the end of this incredible journey… For these last three days on board, we will head up to Drake Passage, admiring the cliffs of Cape Horn, the southernmost point of South America.
